PREPARATION FOR MARRIAGE

Today’s Lesson
Prayer Point - Pray for all our youths who are preparing for their marriages that the Lord will guide and give them a successful marriage.
Previous Knowledge - Teacher reviews the lesson for the previous week and marks the workbook.
1. Opening

A.BIBLE PASSAGE - Genesis 24:33-53.

B. Memory Verse - "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain." Psalm 127:1.

C. Lesson Introduction - Marriage is not for the unprepared. Proper preparation must precede the marital union. Many people prepare for the wedding ceremony more than the marriage itself. Preparation for marriage is a process one must undertake in order to have a successful marital future. May the Holy Spirit teach us as we study this topic in Jesus' name. Amen.

A. Lesson Aim - To study right preparation for Christian marriage.

B. Teaching Objectives and Lesson Plan

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to discover right preparations for Christian marriage. They should also be able to understand what they have to offer for their marriages.          
To achieve these objectives, teacher identifies and explains various types of preparations that are necessary for marriage.
Teacher also explains the need to be ready to offer values by the intending couple to the marriage.

C. Text Review - Genesis 24: 33-53

1.)     Economic stability of Abraham was stated in V.35, 53. He had raiment, jewels, men and maid servants, flocks, herds and camels.
2.)     Spiritual maturity was stated in VAG, 42.
3.)     Mental/physical maturity was stated in V.37 -38. (Ability to take decision.)
4.)     Emotional maturity was seen in V.33; 52.

D. Teaching Method - Teacher should use lecture method.
E. Time Management - 15 minutes for Opening, 30 minutes for Lesson Outline, Summary, Conclusion and Assignment, 15 minutes for General Review.

2. Lesson Outlines

i. LESSON OUTLINE 1 . HOW PREPARED ARE YOU?
To marry, the following are necessary:
a.) Spiritual maturity what is spiritual maturity?
i. Ability to discern the voice of God.
ii. Ability to know the will of God and do it.
iii. To be led by the Spirit of God. Romans 8:14
iv. To be living a life of purity and holiness. Heb. 12: 14
v. Ability to receive instructions from God. Genesis 24: 33-53 b.) Physical maturity Be man and woman not boy and girl. Eccl3: 1
c.) Mental stability- preparation to take right and reasonable decisions.
d.) Emotional stability- health, independence and ability to face challenges and hold on without breaking down.             .
e.) Economic stability Ability to cope with financial responsibility of the home through a stable job and savings -I Timothy 5:8

Class Activity 1 - Students should identify the role of economic stability in marriage.

ii. LESSON OUTLINE 2. WHAT DO I HAVE TO OFFER THIS MARRIAGE?
The following checklist may help intending couples to determine their level of preparations for the marriage.

  1. What value or treasure am I bringing into our marriage life?
  2. Will my partner be ready to offer almost anything to marry?
  3. Will my partner be willing to replace me?
  4. Am I the best I can be?
  5. Am I Mr. Right or Miss Right?
  6. How can I compensate for my partner's weakness or shortcomings?

Teacher should kindly note the following:
i.      Marriage provides mutual benefits for partners.
ii.      Marriage is interesting when partners have value or treasure to offer.
iii.     Parasitic intention is unacceptable in marriage.

Class Activity 2 - For the married, what are you doing to preserve your marriage? For the unmarried, what are you doing to prepare for your marriage?             

SUMMARRY Be prepared spiritually, physically, economically, emotionally and mentally.

CONCLUSION – Be prepared for your marriage.
